Victoria’s most prestigious artisan fair, the Out of Hand Fair has a well deserved reputation for presenting fine crafts, artisan food and one-of-a-kind fashions. The Crystal Garden, once a salt water pool under glass, provides a spectacular backdrop for this professional show.
With the 2011 fair behind us we can build on the successes, send thanks out to all who particiapted, and begin planning for 2012. We are always so thrilled by how many people are waiting in line as the doors open. The look on their faces as they see the Crystal Garden in all its loveliness filled with all the beautiful displays is very satisfying for those of us who work so hard to bring this show to life. For many, the holiday season seems to begin at that moment.
2011 was our second year to showcase the fashion designers who exhibit in the fair with a special Friday night event called Fashion in Action. A hip event, the models walked the runway to commentary by Kylie Stanton of CHEK TV while patrons relaxed in wicker chairs with glasses of wine, Empress cocktails and appetizers in hand. A DJ set the mood with a cool sound track. The clothes were fabulous and the show was really a lot of fun.
Sunday morning's Acoustic Lounge was a new addition to the show and so many came up to us afterwards to say how much they loved the live music. The performers enjoyed it too, so much that Oliver Swain, Aurora Scott and Ashley Wey were already talking about next year and making plans to do a show together instead of two separate acts.
